Administrative and Finance Department

The Administrative and Finance Department covers the whole economical activity of Zaoksky Theological Academy. It can rightly be called the heart of the Academy, because it is impossible to imagine any institution activity without the financial and economic base. It is because of that the most active life can be seen in that part of the administrative building, where we have the reception room and office of a pro-rector for Finance and Administration affairs, an accounting-office, the personnel department and other services.

Despite the fact that this department is the largest by number of employees, however, there is no one sitting idly by. There is really enough work for everyone, and sometimes there is a light in pro-rector's office windows until midnight, especially before the various activities, such as: admission of students at the beginning of the new academic year and graduation at the end of the year; conferences and congresses; open day or guided tours. But the rest of the time work doesn’t slow down, and continues to maintain vital functions of the Academy.

Goals, objectives and responsibilities of the department

The name of the department speaks for itself: it solves all administrative problems that are not directly related to academic activities. Accounting of financial resources and control over their use is an essential part of any organization’s life. Budget for the next school year and development plans of the institution are made here, Administrative and Finance Department also supervises all the other departments. As Zaoksky Theological Academy includes several institutions, each of which is a separate legal entity, Administrative and Financial Department carries out consolidation of all these organizations’ activities. However, not only directors of departments and Zaoksky Academy employees use the services of AFD. Students solving their tuition fees problems or housing and working-off problems can also be often met here.

The Ellen G. White Research Centre is one of the important places in Zaoksky Theological Academy. It is located in a library building.

The Ellen G. White Research Centre was opened in 1995 as a branch of the the Ellen G. White Research Centre attached to General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Church in order to study the spiritual heritage of Ellen G. White and SDA Church's history.

MISSION OF THE CENTRE

The Ellen G. White Research Centre is the keeper of the Adventist heritage and writings of Ellen G. White. Its main mission is to make the writings of Ellen G. White available not only for Zaoksky Academy teachers and students, but for the entire Seventh-day Adventist Church in the territory of Euro-Asia Division. The Centre is open for everyone (not only for the church members) who is interested in the work of Ellen G. White. They can read any book or manuscript by Ellen G. White, and see the exposition.

MATERIALS AND RESOURCES OF THE CENTRE

There is a complete set of Ellen G. White’s works (facsimile) in the Centre, both in English and Russian languages. Ellen G. White’s works cover the great variety of topics such as: Christian life and spiritual formation, principles of a healthy lifestyle, family relationships, parenting and many others. In addition to the works of Ellen G. White, the Centre has books of other Christian writers and historians that cover historical context of the time when Adventist Church was founded. There are also books containing biographies of Adventist pioneers and Ellen White in the Centre. Periodicals published since the early days of the Adventist movement represent one of the great values of our Center. Thematic indexes on the works of Ellen G. White are intended to help with finding appropriate quotations on any topic.

In the archives of the Centre we have a unique collection of unpublished letters and records of visions, sermons and Ellen White's diaries, which are the original sources of many of her works.

The Center houses a unique material - microfilms containing periodicals, letters, books from Ellen G. White’s personal library, and many other things. Modern equipment and software on CD-ROM allows analysing of various statements of Ellen White in all the books and manuscripts constituting 75,000 pages.

The Centre also houses Ellen White’s books translated from English into Russian. These books were typewritten or copied by hand in hard atheistic times. Despite persecutions, imprisonment and exiles, sacrificing their freedom, and sometimes life, believers preserved these works for their posterity.

THE WORK OF THE CENTRE

The Centre is open for visitors, students and teachers who can work here on their researches, essays, term papers and dissertations. Personnel of the Centre help visitors to find the necessary materials and answer questions concerning the writings of Ellen G. White. If needed, they translate some materials of interest from English into Russian. A large number of tourists and visitors of the Centre have an opportunity to learn about life and writings of Ellen G. White, about the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and about the special mission of the Adventist movement. Many email-letters come to the Centre asking for help with finding Ellen White’s quotations related to various topics or with questions about the history of the Adventist Church.

Employees of the Ellen G. White Research Centre also conduct seminars about life and ministry of Ellen G. White and the Seventh-day Adventist Church history - not only in Russia but also in CIS.

The Ellen G. White Research Centre employees are working on creating a museum of the SDA Church history, collecting articles about the activities of the Adventist Church in all regions of the CIS, published in newspapers and magazines, books printed clandestinely, photos and materials related to the history of the Church. This is necessary in order to preserve the history of the Adventist Movement for descendents. The Ellen G. White Research Centre will be very grateful to anyone who can help us with the selection of materials about the life of the Adventist Church in the past and at present.

One of our visitors recently said: “ I did not even know about such a richness of your Centre.”
